One of the stated goals of Proposition R is to contribute to the local economy by encouraging local contractors and suppliers to take part in the construction generated by the $250m program.

GCCCD has set up an OUTREACH PROGRAM that seeks out trades and vendors and assists them in identifying and bidding construction projects. The program provides outreach by internet, mail and phone contacts. It offers free training to qualify for public bidding. It assists small firms in learning how to obtain bonds and how to comply with complex requirements such as Prevailing Wage laws.

The program has been extremely successful as evidenced by the dollar volume of construction in place and the number of participating local businesses.
